Are you a people person who loves dogs and spending most of your day working outdoors? Are you interested in an opportunity in educating and rewarding responsible dog ownership and behaviour? If so, our Corporate Services Department wants you on their team!
The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) Corporate Services Department is recruiting a student who is self-motivated, out-going, responsible and who is comfortable with public speaking to fulfill a summer position as a Dog Ambassador. The student will promote the 'Dog Ambassador Program, assist with Dog Licence checks and promote the 'My Dog Matters' rewards program.
The 'Dog Ambassador program' is aimed at rewarding dog owners on proper dog etiquette, encouraging dog owners to learn about the region's Responsible Dog Ownership Bylaw and dog behaviour in parks and public areas. Identified concerns include off-leash dogs in on-leash areas, failure to properly clean up after dogs, dogs on public beaches and unlicensed dogs. These positions are about educating and rewarding rather than enforcement.
The 'My Dog Matters' rewards program provides discounts on a variety of products and services to licensed dog owners in the Central Okanagan. You will follow-up with existing businesses in this successful program and recruit new businesses.
Working primarily as a team, this position answers public inquiries and assists with organizing and participating in special dog events in the community. You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be comfortable speaking to dog owners. Strong computer skills using MS Office, natural problem-solving skills and the ability to work with limited supervision is essential. These positions work in an outdoor environment in all types of weather using a supplied bicycle as transportation. A post-secondary student entering the third year of Marketing, Communications or Business Administration program is ideal.
The positions will commence immediately and conclude August 25, 2023. The work shift is typically Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm, however, weekend work may be required from time to time. We offer a wage of $20.40 per hour plus 4% in lieu of vacation. The start date of this position is flexible.
